2024: Establishing Metrics to Measure Success: Diversion, Data, and Accountability
Thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners convened to define progress toward reducing criminal justice involvement for people with behavioral health needs in California. While the number of individuals in jail or in prison in California has decreased over the last two decades, the number and proportion of individuals in jail or prison with behavioral health challenges have dramatically increased.
Attendees had the opportunity to reflect on collective progress, explore gaps and challenges across systems, and ultimately, work toward establishing shared metrics to shape a unified narrative around behavioral health and the criminal justice system in California.
The hybrid convening featured dynamic presentations, as well as multidisciplinary discussions among agency and organization leaders in criminal justice and corrections, state and local governments, the judiciary, and behavioral health directors and providers.
